Program and Events Assistant
Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site

One of B.C.'s few historically intact canneries, the Gulf of Georgia
Cannery National Historic Site commemorates the history of Canada's West
Coast fishing industry from the 1870's to the present.  The Cannery offers
a variety of interpretive programs for school groups, tourists and the
general public.

We are currently seeking a Program and Events Assistant to join our team.

Reporting to the Public Programs Manager, responsibilities include:
   ·  Developing and assisting with a variety of special events throughout
      the year;
   ·  Planning and preparing  for special event activities, schedules,
      work-plans and budgets, event volunteer coordination, distributing
      promotional materials, and liaising with community partners ;
   ·  Assisting with the development of programs and activities for the
      site ;
   ·  Delivering guided tours and school programs;
   ·  Greeting visitors to the site and collecting admissions from time to
      time;
   ·  Acting as the Cannery liaison for the Steveston Farmers’ and
      Artisan’s Market.

Qualifications
   ·  Excellent interpersonal skills
   ·  Ability to work both independently, as part of a team, and to
      multi-task
   ·  Experience with desktop publishing and web design software
   ·  An interest in pursuing a career in the museum field
   ·  Bilingual in French and English is an asset
   ·  A criminal record check is required

This is a contract (September 2010 to September 2011), full time, 35-hour
per week position that will include some weekends, holidays and occasional
evenings.  The salary is $12.00 to $14.00 per hour, plus 4% in lieu of
vacation pay.
