Student Summer Work Opportunities at Heritage Park Museum:
(Positions dependent on funding)
Heritage Programs Assistant
The Heritage Programs Assistant will assist with in developing, planning and producing our summer museum programs, including Day Camps, School visits, interpretive tours and other programming related tasks.
In addition to the primary project work, the Heritage Programs Assistant will assist with the day-to-day operations of the Heritage Park Museum, including opening and closing of the site, visitor services, assisting with the running of special events, and other tasks as may be required, such as (but not limited to) working on the Heritage Garden, exhibit maintenance, text mounting or other projects at the discretion of the Curator.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Curator/Director the Heritage Programs Assistant will:
Ø Provide historical information and tours to visitors and school groups;
Ø Responsible for site security including morning and evening checks and opening and closing procedures;
Ø Responsible for bookings of tours and events;
Ø Continue to work on school and adult programs;
Ø Maintaining visitor statistical information;
Ø Plan and assist in hosting special events;
Ø Continue to maintain and develop the Organic Heritage Garden;
Ø Custodian work including the weekly cleaning of buildings and artifacts on site;
Ø Assist with special projects as needed.
Requirements and Qualifications:
Ø Must be a student returning to school in the Fall. Students specializing or interested in Museum Studies, Archaeology, Education, History, Anthropology, and English are desired but will consider students with relevant experience;
Ø Must be motivated, outgoing and energetic;
Ø Must have an interest in history, education, gardening;
Ø Must be very organized and have good time-management;
Ø Should have experience with databases (FileMaker Pro);
Ø Should have experience with public speaking, community networking and public education;
Ø Should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites and Internet Explorer. Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop as well as WordPress is considered an asset;
Ø First Aid and CRP level C is considered an asset
Curatorial Assistant
The Curatorial Assistant will assist the Curator in undertaking various tasks and projects related to the HPM’s collection of heritage artifacts and archival materials.
The Curatorial Assistant will also be tasked with assisting with the day-to-day operations of the Heritage Park Museum, including heritage interpretation, opening and closing of the site, visitor services, assisting with the running of special events, and other tasks as may be required, such as (but not limited to) working on the Heritage Garden, exhibit maintenance, text mounting or other projects at the discretion of the Curator.

Ø Responsible for the continuing entry of gift forms into the permanent collections database;

Ø Continue to maintain and develop the Organic Heritage Garden;
Ø Custodian work including the weekly cleaning of buildings and artifacts on site;
Ø Assist with special projects as needed.

Museum Interpreter/Collections Assistant
The Museum Interpreter/Collections Assistant will assist the Curator in performing the day-to-day interpretation of the site for our visitors, as well as undertaking various tasks and projects related to the HPM’s collection of heritage artifacts and archival materials.
The Museum Interpreter/Collections Assistant will also be tasked with assisting with the day-to-day operations of the Heritage Park Museum, including heritage interpretation, opening and closing of the site, visitor services, assisting with the running of special events, and other tasks as may be required, such as (but not limited to) working on the Heritage Garden, exhibit maintenance, text mounting or other projects at the discretion of the Curator.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Curator/Director the Museum Interpreter/Collections Assistant will:
Ø Provide historical information and tours to visitors and school groups;
Ø Responsible for organization of permanent collections storage;
Ø Responsible for entering books into the book collection, and accessioning books that have no previous number;
Ø Responsible for accessioning new acquisitions into Heritage Park Museum’s permanent or learning collections as decided by the collections committee;
Ø Responsible for the continuing entry of gift forms into the permanent collections database;
Ø Responsible for site security including morning and evening checks and opening and closing procedures;
Ø Maintaining visitor statistical information;
Ø Assist in hosting special events;
Ø Continue to maintain and develop the Organic Heritage Garden;
Ø Custodian work including the weekly cleaning of buildings and artifacts on site;
Ø Assist with special projects as needed.

Candidates should be registered with the Young Canada Work online system and:
Ø Must be a returning post-secondary student in Museum Studies, Archaeology, Education, History, Anthropology, and English are desired but will consider students with relevant experience;
Ø Must be motivated, outgoing and energetic;
Ø Must have an interest in history, education, gardening;
Ø Must be very organized and have good time-management;
Ø Should have experience with public speaking, community networking and public education;
Ø Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites, and Internet Explorer. Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop as well as Word Press is considered an asset;

Visitor Services & Events Organizer
The Visitor Services & Events Organizer will be responsible for assisting the Curator with the planning and operational delivery of the HPM’s summer special events such as Riverboat Days, Canada Day, Social Teas and other events which may be planned and undertaken over the course of the operating season.
The Visitor Services & Events Organizer will also be tasked with assisting with the day-to-day operations of the Heritage Park Museum, including heritage interpretation, opening and closing of the site, visitor services, assisting with the running of special events, and other tasks as may be required, such as (but not limited to) working on the Heritage Garden, exhibit maintenance, text mounting or other projects at the discretion of the Curator.

Exhibit Designer/Historical Researcher
The Exhibit Designer/Historical Researcher will assist the Curator in developing and installing new exhibits, features and materials in the Heritage Park Museum, and perform research related to the HPM’s mandate in order to help expand and enhance the interpretive capabilities of HPM’s existing exhibits.
The Exhibit Designer/Historical Researcher will also be tasked with assisting with the day-to-day operations of the Heritage Park Museum, including heritage interpretation, opening and closing of the site, visitor services, assisting with the running of special events, and other tasks as may be required, such as (but not limited to) working on the Heritage Garden, exhibit maintenance, text mounting or other projects at the discretion of the Curator.
