[BCMA] Summer Positions for Students at the Quesnel Museum

The Quesnel and District Museum & Archives requires a

Collections Assistant and an Education and Events Coordinator

 

Duration of work      May 18 to September 4th, 2010 

Hours/week               37.5 hours per week

Number of weeks    16 weeks

Wage                          $12.86* per hour plus mandatory benefits

*includes $1/ hr in lieu of benefits   

Both positions are subject to grant approval

 

Collections Assistant

The Museum has recently purchased a new Collections Management system
and has developed an exhibit plan for a new facility.  The Collections
assistant will work closely with the Museum Manager to undertake a
collections review.  

Responsibilities  include:

 

*	Update records in PastPerfect Collections Management database
and add digital images
*	Inventory collections and assist with a Collections Assessment 
*	Recommend artifacts and photographs to upload for public access
*	Exhibit development (optional) 
*	Assist with daily museum operations  

 

The ideal candidate: 

*	Is enrolled in a general arts or science program 

*	Is knowledgeable and interested in regional and British Columbia
history. 
*	Has a high level of computer literacy   
*	Possess excellent organizational skills and applies guidelines
consistently 
*	Has superior communication skills & provides excellent customer
service 
*	Is self-motivated and able to work independently 
*	Is proficient in the English language, both written and spoken 

 

 

Responsibilities of the Education and Events Coordinator Include:

*         Assist with the delivery of Education Programs and 

*         Develop one new curriculum based program 

*         Plan and implement family oriented activities for community
festivals

*         Assist with the planning and implementation of Open Doors
Quesnel a new one day celebration of arts and heritage

*         Design a brochure to advertise education programs and develop
content for Heritage Quesnel Facebook page.

*         Assist with daily museum operations  

 

The ideal candidate: 

*	Is enrolled in a general arts or science program 

*	Is knowledgeable and interested in regional and British Columbia
history. 
*	Has experience working with children 
*	Is outgoing and enjoys meeting people 
*	Possess excellent organizational and computer skills 
*	Has superior communication skills & provides excellent customer
service 
*	Is self-motivated and able to work independently 
*	Is proficient in the English language, both written and spoken 

 

Applicants for both positions must be:

*	A Canadian citizen or legally entitled to work in Canada. 
*	18-30 years of age 
*	Eligible for funding under the Young Canada Works Program
