We have used Salesforce for a few years but have found it to be overly
complex and inflexible. We are in the process of switching to Z2 Systems
NEON for fundraising & donor management, membership, online transactions,
and email newsletters.
Take a look at NTEN, the Nonprofit Technology Network <
http://www.nten.org/>. They published a Consumers' Guide to Donor Management
Software that I have found useful.

Is anyone using any CRM (Customer relationship management) software at
their institution?
For fundraising and donor management?
For membership?
For communications (e.g. email newsletters)?
If so what are you using and how is your experience?
Examples include SugarCRM, Salesforce, Microsoft Exchange/Outlook,
Sharepoint...
