Hello BCMA Membership ~

Thanks to all of you who have stepped forward to organize a session for
BCMA Conference 2010 in Nanaimo. From October 27 - 30, /I, Museum :
Community, Technology, Opportunity/ will be a fantastic opportunity to
learn more about your museum community, as well as network with museum
friends, both new and old. Please stay tuned as we gather the conference
sessions together and finalize the schedule for the conference. Keep an
eye on the BCMA website for updates.

And speaking of museum friends....we need your help because BCMA's Owl
is still missing. : ( Does ANYONE know where she is?? (word is Owl's a
'she'? Correct me if I am wrong...) Or do you have a clue as to where
she might have been 'left behind' after the Richmond 2007 conference,
where she was last seen after a year of extensive plastic surgery, err,
conservation? We really do miss her...and want her to fly back in time
to write another chapter in the story of the BCMA Owl.

I have attached the last known photo of the gal, as well as a story of
the beginnings of Owl and a little birdy recently told me. Please feel
free to add in your stories and send your photos to the listserv as well
as to caroline.posynick at gmail.com. Owl shall return!

*Owl: The Early Years*
In 1959 at Camp Chilliwack, Vedder Crossing, Owl was brought out from
McCord Museum by Alice Turner, guest speaker at the series of museum
workshops then being held. Out of this weekend of deliberations a
decision was made to form the BCMA and Alice donated Owl as a symbol of
wisdom and helpfulness that would guide the nascent Association.

Owl served us well and showed up at annual conferences year after year
until she went missing in action after the 1987 conference in Vernon.
Periodic reports in Round Up throughout the year claimed various
"sightings" of Owl as we prepared for the 1988 conference. Nick Tuele
was the current President and was astonished when a rogue element in the
Association led by Colin Stevens held his wife hostage for the return of
Owl as everyone figured out he was the guilty party that had purloined
Owl the previous year. Of course, Owl immediately made a showing.

Anything to add? I bet there is! (I seem to remember she went dancing
the last time the conference was in Nanaimo....I do not know if any
photos survived.....)

Thanks so much for helping us find Owl!
