The Fraser River: Yesterday and Today

New Westminster, BC - On Thursday November 25, the Fraser River Discovery
Centre will be hosting a lively talk by local historian and expert
storyteller, Archie Miller of A Sense of History Research Services from 7:00
to 8:30pm. In this brand new program Miller will combine his talents as
historian, storyteller, and photographer to tell more of the history and the
heritage of the Fraser River. Archival images will take the audience back to
an early age on the river. Miller's own photographs will link the present to
events of years gone by. All of these will be closely accompanied by
entertaining and illuminating comments and anecdotes.

Over the years, Archie Miller has become known for his unique historical
flavour. His walking tours and cemetery tours are always well attended, and
his talks, lectures, and slide programs attract large audiences. A weekly
history column, Our Past, which he and his wife Dale have written for The
Record newspaper for over thirty years, is one of the best-read items in the
paper.

He has always been closely connected to the history of the Fraser and its
stories. Many will know his voice from the FraserFest harbour tours on the
popular Paddlewheeler MV Native. Others may have seen the video "Fraser
Gold", for which he is the on-camera host as well as a writer and
co-producer. Many others have enjoyed his Fraser River talks, history
lectures on the famous waterway and tours along the river's edge. It has
been said many times that Archie Miller brings the past to life and life to
the past.

On Thursday November 25 from 7:00 to 8:30pm, come to the Fraser River
Discovery Centre to enjoy a vibrant local history told through stories and
photos of the Fraser River. Admission to the evening is by donation and
refreshments will be served. Doors open at 6:30pm.

The Fraser River Discovery Centre is an interpretive centre connecting
communities in discovery and celebration of the living, working Fraser
River. It is located at 788 Quayside Drive, New Westminster. The Discovery
Centre is open Wednesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm. Admission is by donation
for the exhibit galleries.
