new lessons inspire b.C. students to find their inner hero

Vancouver, B.C. (November, 10, 2010): The BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum
expanded its Hero In YouR education program to include four new lessons
celebrating the Vancouver Canucks and their 40th Anniversary in the National
Hockey League. Thanks to support from the Province of British Columbia and
2010 Legacies Now, the new Go Canucks Go unit provides teachers with
innovative and interactive ways to educate and inspire their students
through a sport they watch and a team they love.

"The Hero In YouR program, and its new Go Canucks Go lessons shows students
that they can be leaders and inspire each other through their actions," said
Hon. Stephanie Cadieux, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural
Development. "The lessons capture the imagination of our youth, inspiring
them to be active and healthy and set their own personal goals, be they in
the classroom, in the community or on the sports field."

The Hero In YouR program consists of online teaching resources for students
in grades 2-8. The free lesson plans are designed for the classroom and
support curriculum goals in social studies, language arts, physical
education, health and career planning, technology education and more. They
include multi-media components such as interviews with athletes, movie
footage and daily trivia questions. Hero In YouR is divided into five units:
History and Heroes, Olympians, In Her Footsteps. Celebrating B.C. Women In
Sport, Aboriginal Sport, and the NEW Go Canucks Go.

"Kids love the Canucks, so we took the opportunity provided by the 40th
Anniversary of the team in the NHL, to create these new lessons highlighting
leadership, teamwork, milestone moments and more " said Sue Griffin,
President and CEO of the BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum. "Since the Hero
In YouR was launched in 2004 close to 1500 teachers from across province and
country have registered to use the program. We truly hope the lessons help
educators engage, educate, and inspire their students to find the hero
within."

Teachers can access the lessons by going to
<http://www.bcsportshalloffame.com> www.bcsportshalloffame.com and clicking
on the Hero In YouR logo. The newest unit Go Canucks Go was launched at
Rogers Arena on Tuesday with two classes of students from Port Coquitlam's
Minnekhada Middle School. The lucky students were able to see the BC Sports
Hall of Fame's temporary exhibit, meet the Vancouver Canucks' first NHL
captain Orland Kurtenbach and tour the arena. A special day for the students
and a special day for the BC Sports Hall of Fame.
