Vancouver, November 24, 2010 -- The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese
Garden notes with sadness the passing of Dr. David See-Chai Lam.

The Garden was one of Vancouver's earliest organizations to benefit from
the philanthropy of the David and Dorothy Lam Foundation.

In 1980 Dr. Lam heard of efforts in Chinatown to build an authentic
Chinese garden. He approached the organizers with an offer to help.
His million dollar contribution to the Garden was the first of such
size. It was also one of the first made by his Foundation.

Dr. Lam was a lover of gardens and was especially taken with the idea of
a Chinese garden for Vancouver. Dr. Lam later became an articulate
spokesman for multiculturalism, encouraging people to bring the best
from their homelands to Canada and to share their best with others.

The Garden embodies all of that sentiment. First, it brought the best
of China in its classical authenticity and beauty. Second, it evolved
into one of Vancouver's most important inter-cultural meeting points,
and a place where Chinese culture is shared with everyone.

"In this way," said Garden President Li Yang, "Dr. Lam's ideals and
memory will always live in the Garden. "Without Dr. Lam's generous
financial assistance it is hard to imagine how the founders could have
realized their vision."

She said the Garden will remember Dr. Lam fondly and often as it
celebrates its 25^th anniversary throughout 2011.
