Archival Attendant
The Delta Museum and Archives Society is seeking a permanent,
part-time (27.5 hrs/wk) Archival Attendant. This position is located
at the new Delta Archives at 4450 Clarence Taylor Crescent.
GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY
The Archival Attendant (AA) reports to the Archivist and/or the
Assistant Archivist and works within the team environment of a
community museum and archives and the context of Delta Museum and
Archives Society (DMAS) policies and procedures.
The AA is responsible for providing assistance and information to DMAS
staff, researchers, and visitors using archives materials and
facilities, assisting with storage and conservation of the archives'
holdings, and taking receipt of donations to the archives.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
Responsible for reference and research services for museum and
archives staff, the general public, and organizations in the archives'
reference room or through telephone, written, fax, or e-mail requests,
including:
? assisting researchers, visitors, staff, and others with access to
the archives' holdings, library, and reference files;
? facilitating photographic reproduction and copying services done
in-house or by selected businesses and collecting related fees; and
? recording and reporting statistics regarding use of the archives.
Responsible for the proper handling and security of archival materials
and for the proper storage of archival materials, including:
? overseeing the proper care and handling of archival materials by
archives or museum staff or the public;
? storing archival materials in a safe, secure manner; and
? monitoring the archives? environment (humidity, temperature, light).
Responsible for taking receipt of donations to the archives' holdings
for later consideration by the Archivist and/or Assistant Archivist.
Responsible for undertaking research tasks in support of the archives.
Performs other related duties.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, AND ABILITIES
High school graduation; some training or experience in basic archival
reference services desirable.
Experience greeting the public and answering telephones.
Basic computer skills (email, MS Office suite) are essential,
familiarity with Photoshop an asset.
Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills; experience
working with the public; and an ability to work in a team environment.
This position is subject to a Criminal Records Check.
Hours of work: Tuesday ? Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (with a ½
hr unpaid lunch)
Pay Rate: $16.80/hour, plus benefits and RRSP.
