Delta Museum & Archives Society presents -
Border, Bay and Beach: Always in the Headlines!
Delta, BC - South Delta's rich heritage can be spotted by driving down the
palm-tree-lined 56th Street that now identifies South Delta as a thriving
destination for tourists, retirees, and young families. But have you ever
wondered how this beautiful tourist spot evolved from a quiet farming
community? Or how the BC Ferry Terminal at Tsawwassen became a fixture in
provincial and national travel? The community of South Delta is home not
only to the BC Ferry Terminal, but also the Robert's Bank "Super Port",
English Bluff and beautiful Boundary Bay.
The Delta Museum & Archives Society's newest exhibit, titled Border, Bay and
Beach: Always in the Headlines, offers a historical perspective of growth
and change in this economically, culturally, and ecologically rich region.
Come discover how Tsawwassen, Point Roberts, and Boundary Bay came into
existence and the history of many on-going "hot spots" of controversy,
including the Robert's Bank back-up lands and the Treaty of Oregon.
To accompany this exhibit, at 6:00pm on February 10, 2011, the Society will
also be offering a guided tour of the exhibit followed with an illustrated
talk by local natural historian, Anne Murray. The lecture will focus on the
geographical, ecological and historical changes that have taken place in
Tsawwassen and South Delta since the days of the early European explorers.
This talk will feature both archival photographs and present day photographs
by David Blevins. Tickets are $5.00 and space is limited, so if you are
interested in attending this informational lecture, call 604-946-9322 to
register.
For further information, please call 604-946-9322 or visit

The Museum, housed in the historical 1912 Tudor-style building located in
the heart of Ladner Village at 4858 Delta Street, tells Delta's rich history
through exciting exhibits, fun activities and special programs for both
children and adults and is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00am to 4:30pm. For
further information, visit our website at www.deltamuseum.ca.
Established in 1969, the Delta Museum and Archives Society is a
not-for-profit society whose mission is to capture, research and preserve
stories, records and objects of Delta; promote community identity and
facilitate access to our community's rich history and diverse culture
through education, exhibits and reference services for all present and
future generations.
