January 25, 2011, Abbotsford, BC...Saturday, February 12, The Reach launches a new season of Live @ The Reach with a Valentine's special, featuring Rio Samaya, aka Pancho and Sal - a couple that make "beautiful music together". With roots from South America, they play original, traditional and contemporary music, a caravan full of treasures and surprises. Joining them is Kuria Blessings from Zimbabwe on mbira (ancient Zimbabwean thumb piano) and Navarro Franco, an amazing percussionist. This makes a magical combination of Latin Folk, African, and Rumba with Pancho and Sal on accordion, quena, Charango and guitar - music for lovers that will move body and soul. Tickets are $20 per person or $35 per couple. Art Napoleon, a bushman from the boreal foothills of Northern BC, can still skin a moose with a pocket knife but he is better known as one of Canada's great music troubadours whose words and music bridges cultures. Armed with a wicked sense of humour and an uncanny ability to improvise he engages audiences of all ages. A born entertainer, he can embody the shaman archetype to cast a spell on the gathered. JouTou is one of Canada's best world-music ensembles, with a performance that moves from Montreal to Casablanca via the Caribbean. Their magical world of musical cultures is created by Andre Thibault on flamenco guitar and oud (lute), Qiu Xia He on pipa (Chinese lute), and Liam McDonald on percussion. With virtuosic playing and musical exuberance they've brought joy to audiences worldwide.
