Museum seeks Public Input on Proposed Waterfront Move

The Maritime Museum of British Columbia, a long-term resident of the old Court House building in Bastion Square, has set its sights on the former CPR Steamship Terminal in Victoria's Inner Harbour.   In response to the Provincial Capital Commission's request for proposal to occupy the building previously tenanted by the Wax Museum, the Maritime Museum of BC has assembled a task force consisting of architects, planners, fundraisers and experienced museum personnel, to put together an attractive and practical submission.

"We've got only one chance to do this right" says Jamie Webb, the Museum's Foundation president and chair of the task force, "and we need the community to tell us what they want to see in a new on-the-water maritime centre."

As a result the Maritime Museum of BC is opening its doors to the public free of charge Saturday, February 5th so that its impressive collection of artefacts, paintings and photographs can be viewed first hand.  Visitors and locals alike are being asked to express their views on what to keep and what to change. "We are encouraging the public to visit and share their ideas and experiences", says Webb.  Museum staff and the task force committee will be on hand to answer questions and take suggestions.
