Who's the best fibber at the Royal BC Museum?
VICTORIA, BC - Tickets to Artifact or Artifiction - the annual Royal BC Museum fundraising gala - are now on sale.
In its seventh year, Artifact or Artifiction, at the museum the evening of October 6, 2011, matches wits between party-goers and museum curators, collections managers and archivists. Twenty unusual objects from the collections - and 20 strange tales about the items' origins - are displayed throughout the galleries. Guests must decide which stories are tall tales and which are truths.
"Fibbing doesn't come naturally to our scientists and historians, but this is all for a good cause," says CEO Pauline Rafferty. "This is a fabulous event, and the financial support from the community is essential in helping us share the BC story with all British Columbians."
Emceed by Tony Parsons, anchor of CHEK News and CBC News Vancouver, this don't-miss event will feature a delectable roving buffet of fresh local ingredients; select BC beer, wine and cider; and a chance to win one of three grand prizes.
Last year, net proceeds from Artifact or Artifiction came in at $90,000. Funds raised went to support the travelling educational exhibition on invasive species, "Aliens Among Us," now making its way across British Columbia. This year, annual campaign proceeds will go to the areas of greatest need in the museum and archives: educational programs, exhibition development, research projects, acquisitions and collection conservation.
A limited number of tickets are available and priced at $150 each (HST-free with a 10 per cent discount for museum members). They can be purchased by phone, 250-387-7222 from Monday to Friday, or online at www.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/gala<http://www.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/gala>.
Artifact or Artifiction is proudly supported by a number of organizations, including CIBC (presenting sponsor), BC Hydro, Thrifty Foods and Truffles Catering.
As the provincial museum and archives, the Royal BC Museum preserves and shares the stories of British Columbia - on-site, off-site and online - through its research, collections, exhibitions and educational programs. Its two-hectare cultural precinct also includes a number of historically significant buildings and First Nations sites.
