With each exhibition the Burnaby Art Gallery invites local artists, writers, and/or curators to engage with the exhibition. This series of free, informal walk and talk tours offers viewers different entry points into the Burnaby Art Gallery's exhibitions.  Free admission.

The Solitudes of Place: Recent Drawings by Ann Kipling
To August 21, 2011

Solitudes of Place critically engages the drawings created by Kipling in 2009 through the lens of locality and how this concept has been integrated into the dialogue about globalisation.  The exhibit examines how the individual artist and her primary subject, the landscape, may be recognized within larger political and artistic frameworks.  The accompanying book, with guest authors Robin Laurence and Rosemarie Tovell, reflects the authors' different sensibilities and vantage points in which to consider Kipling as a draftsperson. Conceived of as both a catalogue of the exhibition and an artist's book, the publication is a vehicle for those interested in drawing and engaging with Kipling's work through the processes the artist employs and ideas put forth by its authors.

Kipling's work can be found in numerous public collections across Canada including the National Gallery of Canada, The Vancouver Art Gallery, Burnaby Art Gallery and the Kamloops Art Gallery.
