Climate on a Sphere, Royal BC Museum
Victoria, BC - The world has come to the Climate Change Gallery at the Royal BC Museum. Three short films on our changing climate are projected within a large, dynamic globe measuring 1.83 metres (6 feet) across.
The installation runs through Sunday June 12 and is presented by the Canadian Foundation for Climate and Atmospheric Sciences in co-operation with Dalhousie University's Physics and Atmospheric Science Department. The following films play in a continuous loop:
Frozen (12 min)
Ice covers about 20 percent of the Earth's surface and plays a major role in the world's climate.
Forecast: Tropical Cyclone (8 min)
Not so long ago, powerful storms would strike coastal dwellers by surprise. Over time, scientists observed the patterns of hurricanes, typhoons and cyclones to better anticipate where and when they would hit land.
The Blue Planet (7 min)
While underscoring just how rare and precious Earth's fresh water is, this film shows how water shapes our planet and nearly every aspect of our lives.
The Canadian Foundation for Climate and Atmospheric Sciences (CFCAS) is Canada's lead agency for funding university-led research on extreme weather, air quality, climate and marine prediction. For more information about this organization, visit cfcas.org.
