The Cowichan Bay Maritime Centre
Seeks summer student for the following position:
Student Heritage Interpreter/Tour Guide
Work term: 40 hours per week, $12.00 per hour, May 17th - August 27 2011
Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for answering
and directing telephone queries, maintaining the museum office, acting as
tour guide to provide a full range of activities which enhance the overall
visitor experience. Offer a wide range of outdoor interpretive activities
for various audiences along with general visitor services. Assist the
Manager with approved projects and special events. Assist with developing
new exhibits and upgrading current displays. The student will be responsible
for the daily operation and maintenance of the centre, including ensuring
the facility is open and ready for the public, minor repairs such as
painting and upkeep of facilities. Assist with planning events and fund
raising activities. The setup of heritage displays and the necessary story
boards to accompany them will be part of the education process. The
individual will also assist the shipwright with preparation of supplies for
the boat building courses.
Requirements: The student must be between 16 and 30 years of age, be a
full-time student returning to a post-secondary institution in the fall or
be a new post-secondary graduate. The student must have the flexibility to
work weekends, be a conscientious self-starter, and possess good
interpersonal and organizational skills.
The successful delivery of the program will require flexible, dynamic and
outgoing individuals who enjoy interacting with the public and whose high
standards bring them to provide quality service.
