JOB POSTING - PROGRAM FACILITATOR
Auxiliary part-time (15 hr/week)
Wage: $20.46 per hour
Opening Date: March 30, 2011

CITY OF RICHMOND: BRITANNIA SHIPYARDS, NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE
This part-time position is charged with animating a National Historic
Site through appropriate programs, activities and special events. The
work involves implementing, monitoring and evaluating school programs
and group tours. The work involves working closely with local community
associations, considerable contact with the general public, and
continuous evaluation of services provided to ensure effectiveness, and
program relevance. Considerable initiative as well as independence of
judgement and action are exercised in the day-to-day operation of the
facilities and the coordination of programs. Work performance is
evaluated by a supervisor in terms of the effectiveness of services
provided to the community and the attainment of predetermined
objectives.
DUTIES:
* Program delivery of school programs and group tours;
* Supervising volunteers to assist in program delivery;
* Identifying ways to attract new users to the site and
identifying and meeting the needs of a variety of users of the site;
* CLASS program utilization and POS transactions;
* Creating opportunities for working relationships with other
organizations to develop joint programming opportunities;
* Dealing with sensitive situations whether program, facility or
personnel related;
* Responding to complaints and issues raised by the public and
directing complaints and issues to the appropriate person or department
when necessary;
* Ensuring public safety and access in public spaces;
* Preparing spaces for programs, set-up, teardown, clean-up;
* Special events planning assistance and implementation;
* Ensuring inventory of program materials is maintained,
purchasing items if necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
College Diploma and any related University experience is considered an
asset. Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of Museums
and Heritage Sites and of the recreational interests, needs and
resources of the community served. High energy, enthusiasm and interest
in local history. Experience in implementation of programs for school
groups, seniors groups and special interest groups. Sound knowledge of
the facilities and equipment required for a wide range of activities.
Knowledge of and comfort using various computer programs including Word,
Excel, Outlook etc. Ability to supervise volunteers. Physical ability
to carry out the duties of the position. Ability to successfully pass a
criminal record check. Driver's License for the Province of British
Columbia.
