Collection Technician - Richmond Museum

 

Number of positions:        2

Duration:                              6 weeks between mid October and
December 20th, 2012

Wage:                                    $21.00 an hour

Work Schedule:                  Monday to Friday (as required)

                                                35 hours a week

The Richmond Museum is undertaking a collections re-housing/shelving
project and seeks energetic, organized, qualified individuals who have
demonstrated experience in artefact care and handling, artefact housing,
processing and in the use of Microsoft Access.

 

The project will run from mid October to the end December and require
approximately 6 weeks of work at varied times during these months.  The
Collection Technicians are required to be somewhat flexible in the weeks
they work due to scheduling surrounding delivery of materials.

 

Duties Include:

*	Housing and movement of artefacts.  
*	Inventorying artefacts.
*	Data entry.
*	Practicing preventative conservation procedures to ensure the
preservation of the Museum's collection.
*	Undertaking general collection management activities as required
and assisting Curatorial Staff.

 Qualifications

*	A Bachelor's degree in a related discipline (history,
anthropology, archaeology etc.)
*	Museum Studies courses in the field of collections management.
*	A minimum of one-year experience in the field of collections
(artefact) management.
*	Considerable knowledge of Museum methods and principles.
*	Intermediate to advanced experience using Microsoft Access.
*	Superior organizational and sequencing skills.
*	Ability to work as part of a team of professionals.
