Glenbow Museum lays off staff
Calgary Herald Share/Partager
Fourteen employees at Calgary's Glenbow Museum were handed pink slips as the institution struggles to
balance its books. For the past three years, the museum has seen an operating deficit of more than $1
million each year, according to museum president Kirstin Evenden. More/LIRE PLUS

MSA Library - an art gallery?
Abbotsford Times Share/Partager
A coalition of community groups is hoping to save the MSA Centennial Library by Jubilee Park and turn it
into a new art gallery or cultural hub for downtown Abbotsford. The library, which was built with support
from community groups such as the Rotary, Kinsmen and Lions clubs in 1967 to commemorate Canada's
confederation, is slated for closure in November when the Abbotsford Community Library opens adjacent to
Abbotsford Senior Secondary School. More/LIRE PLUS

Cumberland County Museum hosts Acadian Day exhibits

Former staffer: Marineland animals suffering
Toronto Star Share/Partager
Larry lies behind bars in a pen, his eyes red and swollen. The harbour seal with 'an amazing little
personality' who arrived at Marineland about eight years ago is now a shadow of his former self. After
repeated exposure to unhealthy water, he has gone blind. Larry isn't the only sea mammal living in distress
at Marineland, the sprawling attraction in Niagara Falls. More/LIRE PLUS

canadiens. More/LIRE PLUS

Summer day invites thoughts of art getaways
Brantford Expositor Share/Partager
Our spirits crave change, rest, refreshment... and, with August half gone, many of us feel the urge to pack
in whatever vacation time we can manage before fall. Henry Miller once suggested that what we need is not
"a place, but a new way of seeing things". Since artists are known for seeing the world in ways that differ
from most, perhaps we should step into the presence of art in order to wash the dust from world-weary
eyes. More/LIRE PLUS

No new materials in Millet archives due to funding cuts
Wetaskiwin Times Share/Partager
The Millet and District Museum won't be able to make any new historical materials in its archive available to
the public due to the elimination of a federal program. The $1.3 million National Archive Development
Program (NADP), which aims to support the activities of local archives, was terminated April 30 by Library
and Archives Canada. Due to the program's loss, only two out of 13 provincial and territorial archives will
remain open, Alberta's being one of them. More/LIRE PLUS

Diane Dufresne visuelle
Le Devoir Share/Partager

forme, qui dévoilait à la Maison du Festival Rio Tinto Alcan Pour amuser la galerie, sa plus récente
exposition. More/LIRE PLUS

An engine granny could love
Victoria Times Colonist Share/Partager
It isn't often that you see a piece of art and think, "Hey, my grandma could really bond with a grease
monkey over this". But such may be the case with sculptor Clint Neufeld's ceramic reproductions of classic
engines, detailed with dainty flowers and perched on French provincial furniture. More/LIRE PLUS

Annie Pootoogook, on paper
The Globe and Mail Share/Partager
Annie Pootoogook, winner of the $50,000 Sobey Art Award in 2006, is reportedly homeless and living on
the street in Ottawa. Toronto's Art Gallery of Ontario and Ottawa's National Gallery are putting on book-end
exhibitions, grouping artists from the early years with those doing contemporary work. The result is an
artistic survey that tells a textured story of how life has changed in the North. More/LIRE PLUS
