Saturday December 15, 2012
Inside the Hall of One Hundred Rivers
1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Regular Garden Admission Applies*
International Tea Day is an annual celebration originally established to
bring awareness to the labour and sometimes plight of tea pickers and tea
trade workers, and is celebrated in many tea growing countries. To encourage
the global mindset with which tea can be appreciated, we want to recognize
tea as something that brings people together, and brings our own minds and
hearts into an internal space of tranquility, much like the Garden does for
the spirit.
Based on the theme of "sharing stories over a cup of tea," participants of
all ages and backgrounds are invited to spend an afternoon in the Garden
delighting the senses, connecting with each other and creating art together.
- COMMUNITY TEA TREE: write your tea stories and share what tea means to
you, your family or your culture
- TEA LESSONS: engage your senses of sight and smell, as well as taste
- GONG FU CHA: enjoy a traditional Chinese tea ceremony
- TEA LEAF READING: explore one of the oldest form of pictorial reading
- TEACUP PAINTING: Get creative with some personalized gifts for family,
friends or yourself! Paint two porcelain teacups - all materials provided.
(Three sessions - 1:00pm, 2:00pm & 3:00pm, maximum 15 participants in each
session. 8 spots free for pre-registered youth ages 8 - 18; and 7 spots open
to all participants with additional cost of $5/person)
Admission
All activities are free with Garden Admission, except the Painting Teacups
sessions that have an additional cost of $5/person for 2 teacups. All
materials provided.
*For youth between 8 - 18 years of age
We have a limited number of 8 free spots for each session of Tea Stories and
Painting Teacups (1pm, 2pm & 3pm). Please email Susan Ma, Education
