In conjunction with the current exhibition /Fantasy Gardens/, the
Richmond Art Gallery will hold a Panel Discussion on "Developing
Richmond" Saturday, March 3 at 1pm. Topics will include; Fantasy
Gardens, past and present, the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR) and how
changes to land use impact our city and its citizens. The event is free
and open to the general public.

of Richmond/, *Kent Mullinix, PhD., */Director, Sustainable Agriculture
and Food Security,/ /Kwantlen Polytechnic University/, *Harold Steves

Terry Crowe specializes in establishing long-range community planning
policies, and develops and implements land use and environmental
policies and urban design guideline policies in consultation with the
community. //
Dr. Kent Mullinix is an agricultural scientist, agrologist, and
educator. His research advances environmentally sound, local scale,
human intensive, community focused agri-food systems as an integral and
critical element of sustainable human settlement. He has developed many
technical, incumbent workforce and undergraduate education programs and
is currently leading the development of a Bachelor of Applied Science -
Sustainable Agriculture curriculum at Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
Harold Steves has served on Richmond City Council continuously since
1977, and served a previous term as alderman from 1968-1973. From
1973-1975 he served one term as an M.L.A. in the Provincial Legislature,
and is one of the founders of the Agricultural Land Reserve. Descended
from a pioneer Richmond farming family, he is very active in community
life in the Steveston area, and is particularly interested in the
preservation of farmland, heritage preservation, and environmental issues.
De Whalen has been a Richmond resident since 1975, andhas a long history
in protecting and promoting Richmond farmland. Her first job out of
university in 1974 was to coordinate the establishment and operation of
the Richmond Allotment Gardensat the old Fantasy Gardens site. Dechairs
the Richmond Poverty Response Committee, and is also active in food
security issues, advocating grow/eat/buy local and locally grown food
for community meals and the Richmond Food Bank.
