Victoria, British Columbia, Canada -  Craigdarroch Castle Historical Museum is pleased to announce the following staff promotions:
New Executive Director -- John Hughes
The Board of Directors of the Craigdarroch Castle Historical Museum Society appointed John Hughes as Executive Director, effective November 30, 2011.  John commenced employment with the Society in 2008 as the Operations and Marketing Manager and is very familiar with the Society's day-to-day operations, finances and history.  The Board subsequently appointed him to the position of Acting Executive Director in March 2011.
John's IT experience has helped streamline and improve Craigdarroch's office functionality and internal systems, and his experience as a small business owner provides a sound background in finance, public relations and business development.
His responsibilities at the Castle will include leading the Board of Directors through a strategic planning process this winter along with overseeing all department managers at Craigdarroch.
In addition to his duties at the castle John sits on the executive committee of the Heritage Tourism Alliance of BC (HTA), is chair of the Victoria Heritage Tourism Alliance (VHTA) and participates in business development activities with a number of other tourism and attraction organizations.
New Manager of Operations and Development -- Elisabeth Hazell
Elisabeth Hazell joined the staff of Craigdarroch Castle in February 2011 as Assistant Manager of Operations and Development.  With the change in Executive Director she took on more responsibilities very quickly.  Elisabeth assumed her duties with enthusiasm and added new programming at Craigdarroch including the Victorian Garden Party in August, hosting the Victoria Steam Expo II in September, expanding the annual Christmas programming and starting in January, a series of Vintage Craft Workshops.  On November 30th, she was promoted to Manager of Operations and Development.
As Manager of Operations and Development, Elisabeth's responsibilities will include coordinating public relations, volunteer staffing, event planning and fundraising development.
Elisabeth's most recent experience is as Membership Coordinator then Development Director for the Nantucket Land Council (NLC).  She holds a BFA from Concordia University in Montreal and has many years of professional and volunteer experience with cultural institutions.  Since arriving in Victoria Elisabeth has taken on additional roles in the community and represents Craigdarroch on the Victoria Attractions Association (AV) and is a member of the Vancouver Island Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP.)
