Tracing the Columbia - a documentary viewing
In the spring and summer of 2011, an expedition of 200 strong paddled 26 foot Voyageur 'North Canoes' through the river systems of Southeast British Columbia, Montana, Idaho and Washington to commemorate the epic journeys of David Thompson. Tracing the Columbia is the film documentary that records that journey, and on February 4th come to the Laurel Packinghouse and watch the documentary and meet one of those adventurous Columbia Brigade Voyageur Crews - the Red Rogues.
Leaving from Invermere in British Columbia's Rocky Mountain Trench, the 10 voyageur crews paddled down the Kootenay River to the Libby Dam, portaged to the Clark Fork River and paddled its reaches to another portage, this time to the Columbia River. At that point, the 2011 David Thompson Columbia Brigade paddled the remainder of the Columbia River to land in Astoria, Oregon 200 years to the day after David Thompson arrived - July 15, 2011! Camping on the riverbanks the entire route, the Brigade brought Fur Trade education and lots of entertainment to every community along the way.
The Kelowna Museums Society and the Okanagan Brigade Society present this special viewing of the documentary, Tracing the Columbia - and there will be lots of time for questions and answers about the exciting 1800 km paddle along the Pacific Northwest river systems.
Join us all at the Laurel Packinghouse on Saturday, February 4th between 10:00am and noon for this special presentation. The documentary will begin at 10:30am. Admission is by donation.
