Step into Royal shoes on Wonder Sunday at the Royal BC Museum

VICTORIA, BC - Have you ever wondered if you could be a royal relative, or what to do if invited to party at the palace? Families are invited to step into royal shoes at the next Wonder Sunday at the Royal BC Museum, Sunday July 29, 2012 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.

At 1:00 pm, join a piper-led parade from the front steps into the museum. Show your admission or membership to continue upstairs to the Cecil Beaton photography exhibition and Wonder Sunday activities.

Create your own royal portrait or self-portrait; design a fancy hat for the occasion; make your family tree; learn tea party etiquette by role-playing; or add to a 60-year timeline of events commemorating the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

Wonder Sunday is a family program that runs on the last Sunday of every month and is included with museum admission or membership. Events are generally guided by ideas from the permanent galleries or feature exhibitions and include activities, crafts and performances for children 6-12 years old and their families.

Royal BC Museum Kids' Club members are invited on an earlier exploration of the museum precinct, a search for 'royal' roots, beginning at 12:15 pm. Club members can re-enact a ribbon-cutting or cornerstone-laying ceremony and have a photo keepsake of the event. From Noon to 1:00 pm the Monarchist League of Victoria will be on the front steps of the museum with information about the royal family and a cake-cutting ceremony. To find out more about the Kids' Club and family membership, contact membership at royalbcmuseum.bc.ca.

Its two-hectare cultural precinct in Victoria also includes a number of historically significant buildings and First Nations sites; and its seasonal satellite museum gallery in Vancouver showcases BC's history in one of the oldest buildings in Chinatown - Wing Sang.
