Richmond Art Gallery - Job Posting



Applications are now being accepted for a contract position, Community
Outreach Coordinator, at the Richmond Art Gallery.  This is a one-year
contract to start a new program that will expand the Gallery's outreach
to the Chinese newcomer community in Richmond.  The Community Outreach
Coordinator will be responsible for designing and delivering a range of
social and educational programs that will allow newcomers to learn more
about the Gallery, art and Canadian culture.

 

Primary Duties/Responsibilities 

Working with the Gallery's Curator and Education Coordinator, the
Community Outreach Coordinator will:

*        Develop and deliver an educational program on topics in art
from traditional Chinese to issues in contemporary Canadian art

*        Research, schedule and present speakers and educational events.
Manage program budget 

*        Devise goals and outcomes for programming; monitor and evaluate
programming and recommend continued improvement

*        Document programs and events and maintain the appropriate
records

*        Prepare written correspondence for programming, including
letters, contracts and agreements

*        Develop strong connections between the Gallery and target
community. Research, establish and maintain community partnerships that
advance the Gallery's programming and outreach

*        Develop marketing materials and advertising for programs.
Oversee promotions and communications related to Outreach programs

*        Write and distribute materials (i.e. news releases, flyers,
etc) that promote the Outreach programming and volunteer opportunities

*        Recruit, train, schedule and supervise volunteers to assist
with programs and receptions

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to research contemporary art programming opportunities and
propose innovative initiatives

High degree of flexibility, ability to remain calm and to maintain
deadlines under pressure

Demonstrated skills in interpersonal relations, communication and
problem solving 

Demonstrated verbal, written and presentations skills

 

Qualifications 

A university degree is preferred in a related discipline such as Art
History, Cultural Studies or Art Education. A minimum of two years of
related experience is required.  Strong ties to the Richmond Chinese
community and fluency in Mandarin essential.  Written, verbal and
interpersonal skills; must be organized, innovative, and self-motivated.
Experience developing community outreach programs required.

Compensation: 21 hours/week for 42 weeks, $20/hour plus 4% vacation and
5% in lieu of benefits.
