Museum displays boards with messages after Stanley Cup riot
QMI Agency Share/Partager
Less than a year ago, heartbroken locals took to writing on the wooden boards covering smashed
storefront windows at downtown's The Bay to express grief, shame and community spirit following the
Stanley Cup riot. About a dozen of those therapeutic planks now line the exhibition hall at the Museum of
Vancouver as the centrepiece for Friday's roundtable discussion marking the one-year anniversary of the
June 15 mayhem. More/LIRE PLUS

Le Musée québécois de culture populaire prépare son 10e anniversaire
L'Hebdo Journal Share/Partager
More/LIRE PLUS

Government censorship hurts us all
National Post Share/Partager
Last month, Ottawa's Museum of Science and Technology was criticized for hosting 'Sex: A Tell-All
Exhibition'. PEN Canada asked two journalists to debate whether the exhibit was appropriate. The following
is Sarah Elton's response. According to news reports, the Minister's office complained directly to the head
of the museum. His office also sent out a press release stating that The Sex Exhibit doesn't fit within the
museum´s mandate of fostering scientific and technological literacy. More/LIRE PLUS

'Porn exhibit' is titillation, not education
National Post Share/Partager
In On Liberty, the Ur-text for many free speech libertarians, John Stuart Mill argues that the demands of
liberty and authority will always struggle, because the one cannot exist without the other. And so "some
rules of conduct, therefore, must be imposed - by law in the first place, and by opinion on many things
which are not fit subjects for the operation of law". More/LIRE PLUS

Burnaby snakehead fish iced and off to museum
Burnaby Now Share/Partager
The infamous snakehead captured in Burnaby's Central Park will head to Victoria's Royal British Columbia
Museum after SFU biologists are through with it. Snakeheads are a non-native species that can cause
havoc in ecosystems by eating everything and proliferating with no natural predators to keep the population
in check. More/LIRE PLUS

More/LIRE PLUS

Whitby artist portrays Picasso, the great master's 'Domestic Period'
The Star Share/Partager
I went to see two Picasso exhibits this week. One you've likely heard of. You know, his private collection
from Paris on show at the Art Gallery of Ontario. The second show is an echo response to it. Called
'Domestic Picasso', it features a series of portraits of the great master dutifully completing one mundane
household chore after another. More/LIRE PLUS

The joy of giving back
The Tyee Share/Partager
A stolen six-ton petroglyph returns home after 86 years in Vancouver. Here's the story. The petroglyph's
original site was determined by matching old photos to ridge lines in Stswecem'c Xgat'tem territory.

Bluenose society transfers more than $700,000 in assets
Chronicle Herald Share/Partager
Fresh air has touched the bow of the Bluenose II for the first time in 22 months as workers began removing
the temporary structure under which it is being rebuilt. The month-long process began just as Sen. Wilfred
Moore announced the Bluenose II Preservation Trust Society has handed over half of its $1.4 million in
assets to the Schooner Bluenose Foundation, seven years after the former Tory government gave the
contract to operate the ship to another operator. More/LIRE PLUS

Wreck display an impressive museum exhibit
Sudbury Star Share/Partager
Walking through the Billings Kagawong Museum recently, I couldn't get over how effective the displays
were in taking you back in time. The one that impressed me the most out of many was the display of the
wreck of the cargo ship the North Wind. According to curator Rick Nelson, the ship went down in 150 feet of
water on the east side of Clapperton Island, which is in the North Channel. The display allows you to walk
through an almost completely dark space. Other exhibits include the school house where you can see the
old desks, books and ink wells among other things. One of the books is dated 1912 and is on the wreck of
the Titanic, which must have been published the same year as the sinking of the great ship. More/LIRE
