*Barkerville's Theatre Royal to Host Gala Event on Saturday, June 16th*

*June 11, 2012 (Barkerville, BC) - *In 2012, Barkerville Historic Town's
famous Theatre Royal celebrates its 144th year. Established soon after
the great Barkerville fire of 1868, an event that both devastated the
town and inspired its regrowth, the Theatre Royal has stood as a
testament to an appreciation of things that are beautiful and inspiring,
even in times of great adversity. Every summer season since Barkerville
was first declared a provincial heritage site more than fifty years ago,
a dedicated troupe of actors, singers, dancers and musicians assemble in
the historic town to re-create the mission of the original Cariboo
Amateur Dramatic Association: bringing joy and creativity to the goldfields.

"This season, which marks 144 years since the original Theatre Royal
building opened its doors, Barkerville's Newman and Wright Theatre
Company will play host to a gala event acknowledging the achievements of
the theatre and the admiration and support of its audience," said James
Douglas, Manager of Visitor Experiences. "On Saturday, June 16th,
friends, colleagues and the community will come together for a full day
of celebrating Newman and Wright Theatre Company, the Theatre Royal,
and, of course, the original Cariboo Dramatic Association, whose
traditions are lovingly carried on today."

Newman and Wright Theatre Company will begin its gala performances at
1:00pm on June 16^th with Danette Boucher's one-woman show /The Bride of
Barkerville/, a thrilling story about Cariboo Amateur Dramatic
Association co-founder, Florence Wilson. The day will continue with two
offerings from the Newman and Wright's entire Theatre Royal cast:
/Westering Man -- James Anderson's Journey/, a musical drama about the
infamous "Bard of Barkerville," at 4:00pm, and the 2012 edition of /Gold
Rush Revue/, a musical variety show that is sure to delight theatre
goers of any age, at 8:00pm. Afterwards, beginning at 9:00pm, there
will be more music, merriment, and mercantile opportunities at
Barkerville's Theatre Royal, the Barkerville Hotel, House Hotel, and
Mason and Daly General Merchants.

Gala tickets are available for $40.00 (plus HST) and include admission
to Barkerville, access to all three Theatre Royal shows, the evening
festivities, and a seat at the Barkerville Heritage Trust's annual
general meeting.

During the day, and between shows, gala ticket holders can enjoy
Barkerville's award-winning historical interpretation programs, town
tours, and a variety of demonstrations throughout the site. For more
information about the 2012 Theatre Royal Gala, or to reserve tickets,

*ABOUT BARKERVILLE HISTORIC TOWN*

Barkerville Historic Town is the largest historic site in Western North
