Step back through time –
Clayburn Village Heritage Day and
Heritage House Tour - July 15, 2012, 11:00am-5:00pm
Appreciate British Columbia’s first company town and one of the oldest
historic villages. Heritage Day is back this summer and you can
experience Clayburn Village’s charm in full bloom. Free events consist
of village and brick factory site tours, vendor booths, artisans,
vintage cars, old fashioned childrens’ games and a vintage fashion show.
The Heritage House Tour opens doors to 8 private homes and 2 historic
buildings. Architecture by the famous Samuel Maclure, colors, decorating
styles, and great cottage gardens await you. Tickets for the house tours
are $25.00 and will be available at the event. For more information
about Heritage Day or the Heritage House Tour, email

Clayburn Village is located at the foot of Sumas Mountain, east of the
Abbotsford-Mission highway, and owes its existence to a seam of
high-quality fire clay that was discovered late in the last century.
John Charles Maclure, the brother of the renowned architect Samuel
Maclure, founded the company in 1905. With the architectural and
planning expertise of his brother, he quickly established a townsite -
the first company town in British Columbia - and connected it via a
narrow gauge railway line to the Canadian Pacific Railway’s system and
the wider world.
Clayburn Village is a wonderful place to stroll and contemplate the
past. Think ahead ... and plan your summer visit to historic Clayburn
Village in Abbotsford, British Columbia.
