PLEASE SPEAK UP FOR RIVERVIEW ONE MORE TIME
Drop-in workshops to solicit public opinion about the re-development of the
Riverview Lands have been scheduled for
Tuesday, May 22; Wednesday, May 23; Monday, June 11; and Tuesday, June 12.
These will all run from 4 to 8 pm at four different locations in Port
Coquitlam and Coquitlam. The public will be asked to tour displays and fill
out a questionnaire
Check the RHCS website for exact locations and more information:

BACKGROUND:
Rather than support the National Historic Site application, the BC
Provincial Government has commissioned a "Heritage Conservation Plan" for
Riverview, which includes a public survey to learn what we value about the
Riverview Lands and why. This report (due in September) will be used to
inform a Land Use Plan for Riverview that may appear within a year.
It is important that each of us express our opinion now - while critical
decisions are still to be made.
Once again, we need to declare that the Riverview lands, trees and buildings
should remain public, accessible, and dedicated to the needs of the mentally
ill.
The purpose of this Heritage Consultation Plan is to "learn what people
value about the Riverview Lands and why". Government representatives
presented details of the process to a meeting of Coquitlam's Riverview Lands
Advisory Committee last week. It was obvious that the local community values
the property since so many observers showed up, the meeting had to be moved
to the council chambers. It was also obvious that there is a great deal of
lingering suspicion about hidden government motives and anger about the late
notice and poor organization for these workshops. Regardless, we are urging
our members to participate and send a clear message to the decision makers.
