Winnipeg's Valour Road soldiers honoured at Ottawa museum
CBC News Share/Partager
Three soldiers who lived on the same street in Winnipeg are being remembered for the sacrifices they
made during the First World War. The Canadian War Museum in Ottawa has unveiled the Victoria Crosses
belonging to Sgt.-Maj. Frederick William Hall, Lt. Robert Shankland and Cpl. Lionel B. Clarke. More/LIRE

Oldest house in Ancaster becomes police museum
CBC News Share/Partager
Birte Nielsen couldn't help but well up a little standing in Tisdale House, home of the new Hamilton Police
Service museum. Built around 1825, Tisdale House is believed to be the oldest standing house in Ancaster.
And it was Birte's late husband John's labour of love. A carpenter and avid community volunteer, John
Nielsen oversaw the building's move to its current location at 314 Wilson St. E. Many days, he brought tools
to Tisdale House to do the renovating himself. More/LIRE PLUS

More/LIRE PLUS

Empruntez... une visite au Musée
Courrier Frontenac Share/Partager
More/LIRE

In small shows, Ydessa Hendeles changed the art world
The Globe and Mail Share/Partager
We can be fairly certain that most people who passed by the Ydessa Hendeles Art Foundation during its
25 years on Toronto's King Street West had no idea what went on there. There were no posters, no window
displays, nor even a sign stating unambiguously that art could be seen inside, if only from noon to 5 p.m. on
Saturdays. Yet the relatively small number of shows presented there - most ran for at least a year -
subtly changed the art world, and the way we think about presenting art and other objects in a
contemplative space. More/LIRE PLUS

Painting Canada comes home to McMichael
Toronto Star Share/Partager
There must have been a certain quality of other worldliness as the finest works of Tom Thomson and the
Group of Seven artists recently made their way to the McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Kleinburg after
a tour of three European cities. Heading up the winding road to the gallery that has become a shrine to the
artists' creativity, trucks packed with the paintings would have passed the graves of six of the eight
originators of the masterpieces: Arthur Lismer, Frederick Varley, Lawren Harris, Frank Johnston, A.J.
Casson and A.Y. Jackson. The only graves missing on that route are J.E.H. MacDonald and Tom
Thomson. More/LIRE PLUS
