The Vancouver Maritime Museum is seeking an experienced, energetic,
outgoing individual for the followingposition:
*Museum Collections Assistant*
Reporting to the Curator the position is responsible for:
Researches information related to specific objects in the museums
collections; identify objects currently housed in offsite storage; make
recommendations on historical or cultural relevance of these objects and
work with the curator to assess relevance within the museums current
collection.
Identifies which objects will remain in offsite storage. These objects
will be researched within the museums database; digitally documented
then packed appropriately.
Assists with processing collections including registering, accessioning,
cataloging, maintaining inventory, and documentation. Work with the
curator on beginning the process of de-accessioning.
Assists in setup and assembly of storage areas for collection according
to curatorial standards;cleans collection and storage area as needed.
Seek out appropriate conservational advice when needed.
Prepares various reports regarding collection activities and condition
of objects as requested.
Responds to inquiriesregarding collection from museum visitors.
Assists in the maintaining of museum collection database through data
entry and editing.

_Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills_
* Sound knowledge of museum operations and functions as they relate to
the work performed.
* Sound knowledge of the rules, regulations, policies and procedures
governing the work.
* Knowledge of documentation practices and procedures pertaining to
museum objects and storage. Skills in documentation of museum
objects and appropriate storage procedures.
* Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of records, reports and
materials related to the work.
_Desirable Training and Experience_
Completion of the 12^th school grade supplemented by courses in
anthropology, archeology or museum studies or related subjects, plus
considerable relatedexperience, including some supervisory experience;
or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
_Required Licenses, Certificates and Registrations_
Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia.
_Remuneration_
$20.08 per hour
Part time, four days per week at Pay Grade 18 plus benefits.
Union position with CUPE Local 15.
This is a part-time temporary position running November 2012 -- May 2013.
