Arts philanthropist Walter Carsen, a significant supporter of the National Ballet of Canada, the Shaw
Festival and the Art Gallery of Ontario, has died. He was 100. Carsen died in Toronto, just six weeks after
celebrations marking his 100th birthday. A lover of dance, Carsen seldom missed a National Ballet

most significant donor to the Toronto-based troupe in the past 20 years. She expressed deep sadness at

Canadian heritage plane on the auction block

Surviving war and time, a Canadian flyer that's roamed the skies for 70 years - losing some heritage
along the way - is about to find a new home. But it would take top dollar to get the veteran back to the
place it first protected. A rare Hawker Hurricane fighter aircraft that flew along Canada's East Coast during
the Second World War - possibly helping to protect convoys from German U-boats - is going up for
auction and bids could reach a lofty $2.6 million. More/LIRE PLUS

It's time: Coquitlam needs its own museum
Tri-City News Share/Partager
The BC Museums Association counts 191 museums among its members. Some are heritage homes like
Coquitlam's Mackin House Museum. Proper name notwithstanding, however, Mackin House is not a
museum. Mackin House is a heritage home and while the building is a splendid asset, it is not a suitable
space for a museum. More/LIRE PLUS
TransLink cuts funding for the Transit Museum Society

A nonprofit organization that maintains a fleet of historic Vancouver buses is looking for a new home. The
Transit Museum Society has learned that budget pressures at TransLink will bring funding for the group to
an end next year. The society operates about 12 buses dating back to the 1930s as part of a 'rolling
museum' that's used for community events, weddings, and movies. More/LIRE PLUS

The new Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) opened this fall, part of a complex of historic
buildings, skillfully stitched together by Goldsmith Borgal & Company Ltd. Architects. The creation of this

Toronto museum in Casa Loma's future
My Town Crier Share/Partager
City council agrees our castle on the hill should double as our museum of Toronto history. Reps voted to
ask for proposals in hope of finding a suitable operator and multi-year leasing arrangement for Casa Loma.
In doing so, they also signed off on a requirement that proposals incorporate space for a Toronto museum,
an idea put forth by St. Paul's councillor Josh Matlow. More/LIRE PLUS
