FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Guardians of the Coast speaker series at the Maritime Museum of BC
On February 27, the Guardians of the Coast speaker series continues at the Maritime Museum of BC with ret'd Coast Guard Captain Jon Churchill who will speak about the history of the Coast Guard's Inshore Rescue Boat Program during its active days (1976 - 1994). He will also be speaking about the founding and nurturing of two other programs, the Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Office of Boating Safety.
"The Maritime Museum is excited that Jon Churchill will be speaking at the museum as part of this speaker series. His involvement with Inshore Rescue Boat Program and the creation of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Office of Boating Safety has helped shape the Coast Guard into the organization it is today," says Jon Irwin, Executive Director of the Maritime Museum of BC. "It is thanks to the support of Coast Guard members, like Jon Churchill, that the Guardians of the Coast exhibit has been so successful."
The Guardians of the Coast speaker series concludes in March with Coast Guard Captain Clay Evans who will be discussing the Canadian Lifesaving Service on Vancouver Island's West Coast. Doors open at 6:30pm with the event starting at 7:00pm. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, and children under 12 and members are free.
