International Women’s Day with Kelowna Museums
Kelowna Museums Society offers guided tour of new exhibit

Friday, March 8th, 2013 is International Women’s Day. This is a day that is designated to celebrate the economic, political and social achievements of women around the world. The Kelowna Museums Society wishes to contribute to this important, global day by offering a guided tour of our latest exhibit, Iʔ təmxʷulaʔxʷ iʔ txət̓ncutntət/The Land is Our Culture.

This exhibition aims to bring the voices of aboriginal women, who are often greatly underrepresented, to the forefront, featuring the work of two First Nation artists: Barb Marchand and Janine Lott. These two artists explore multiple themes such as the important role that women play in the Okanagan culture, and the ancestral connections that the artists express in their work.  This exhibit encompasses the essence of International Women’s Day by celebrating the voice of aboriginal women.

Join Gayle Liman, Guest Curator of Iʔ təmxʷulaʔxʷ iʔ txət̓ncutntət/The Land is our Culture, as she takes us on a journey through this exhibition of art works, artefacts, aboriginal culture and the connections between land and culture. The tour will take place on Friday, March 8th, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at the Okanagan Heritage Museum, located at 470 Queensway Avenue, Kelowna. Admission is by donation. The Kelowna Museums Society is a not for profit, charitable organization dedicated to the promotion of a greater interest and awareness of the military, agriculture, wine producing and cultural heritages of the Okanagan Region through collection, preservation, exhibition and interpretation. The main office of the Kelowna Museums Society is located at 470 Queensway Avenue and is open Monday to Friday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and on Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
