Membership and Development Coordinator
Maritime Museum of British Columbia Victoria BC

The Maritime Museum of BC is operated by a public non-profit society.  Our mission is to preserve and interpret the maritime heritage of Canada's west coast. The museum has a world-class collection of more than 35,000 artefacts, 40,000 photographs, thousands of ships' plans and navigation charts and a 6,000 volume reference library.  The museum society has 700 members and around 40 active volunteers.  The professional staff currently numbers six.  The Membership and Development Coordinator is a new position.

Position:

Reporting to and working closely with the Executive Director of the museum the Membership and Development Coordinator will be responsible for development, implementation and management of the museum's membership program and donor stewardship. This position will also include research and writing of grant proposals.

Responsibilities:

*           Research, develop and implement new strategies for increasing and connecting with membership;
*           Work with museum staff responsible for ongoing communication with members;
*           Design and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy for membership, donor and grant programs;
*           Manage and enhance the Annual Appeal: Develop and enhance strategies and materials for acquiring new donors, renewals,      upgrades of previous levels of donations, annual fund appeals, and development and fulfillment of benefits;
*           Steward donors through regular and timely communication;
*           Oversee staff responsible for data entry and gift processing;
*           Build donor base;
*           Research and prepare grant proposals;
*           Cultivate and nurture relationships with agencies, organizations and foundations which grant funds;
*           Provide input on revenue targets and ongoing fundraising strategies;
*           Participate on fundraising, stewardship and membership team building events as needed;
*           Development of analysis and reports on membership and donations

Qualifications:

*           Bachelor's degree or equivalent related education;
*           Minimum of two years' experience in fundraising and/or development;
*           Formal training in not for profit management desirable;
*           Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines;
*           Strong organizational & communications (verbal and written) skills;
*           Interest, enthusiasm and affinity for fundraising and working with people;
*           Energetic, resourceful, pro-active, independent;
*           Ability to collaborate in a team environment;
*           Knowledge of data base programs and social media;
*           Strong research skills;
*           Flexibility;
*           Skilled at establishing and cultivating strong relationships;
*           Keen attention to detail
