Course Developer and Sessional Instructor Cultural Heritage Studies Certificate Program, Faculty of Fine Arts and Division of Continuing Studies, University of Victoria
CH563 Visitor Experiences course

As part of the museum studies stream in the Graduate Professional Certificate in Cultural Heritage Studies, the Faculty of Fine Arts and the Cultural Resource Management Program, Division of Continuing Studies, University of Victoria, invites expressions of interest from museum specialists to develop a graduate-level online course, CH 563 Visitor Experiences.

The first offering of this online course is planned for September 9 - December 15, 2013, with course development expected from February to approximately July, 2013.

This course has the following calendar description:

CH563 Visitor Experiences: Explores the evolving concept and implications of an holistic approach to visitor engagement in museums and other cultural heritage institutions, and focuses on museums' relationships with their publics, their capacity to serve as social spaces, strategies for audience research, the characteristics of visitors, communications, exhibitions, formal and informal learning activities, and evaluation strategies.

We are seeking a content specialist and dynamic instructor with relevant professional and education background in the theory and practice of visitor experience. The successful candidate will be familiar with current issues and developments in creating memorable, transformational, and engaging experience, and be professionally involved in the cultural sector.

This initiative involves the development of curriculum and instructional materials in collaboration with Cultural Heritage Studies staff and the University's Distance Education Services to create an engaging graduate-level online course for museum professionals from Canada and beyond, as well as for graduate students from related programs. Candidates should hold a PhD or minimum Masters-level education in Museum Studies or a related discipline, and have significant and recent professional experience working within the cultural sector, have evidence of successful university-level and/or professional teaching, and demonstrate experience in relevant written academic or professional communications. Extensive work has been done to develop this new Graduate Professional Certificate Program, including learning outcomes and objectives for each course and the program as a whole. Further information on this course's scope and suggested/draft course learning objectives can be obtained from the Program office.

While course development and instruction are two separate appointments, it is anticipated (and preferable) that the successful candidate will undertake both components. The stipend for course development is $6000 (CDN). The stipend for course delivery is determined on the basis of academic credentials and prior academic teaching experience.

A letter of interest, a CV outlining education, professional, teaching and writing/publishing experience, and the names and contact information of two references should be sent by January 31, 2013 to:
