The Vancouver Women’s University Club invites you to attend an evening of swinging traditional jazz, featuring clarinetist James Danderfer. Held in the elegant drawing room of the Hycroft mansion, the James Danderfer Trio will perform the music of Jelly Roll Morton, as recorded in his 2012 CD “Swingin’ at the Patricia.” Danderfer’s music has been described as “spirited and deeply resonant” and he is known for playing with “passion, clarity and virtuosity.” He will be joined by pianist Miles Black and drummer Joe Poole.

In the spirit of the great 1960s talk show television programme Jazz Casual, the concert will also include a discussion with Danderfer about his music and the history of jazz in Vancouver, hosted by Globe and Mail journalist and jazz saxophonist Erin Millar.

Danderfer is one of Canada’s best clarinet players and has performed widely from CBC’s Hot Air program to an international festival in Zhu Jia Zhao, China. He is a graduate of McGill’s University’s masters program in jazz composition and has released six albums as a bandleader.

Join us for this intimate gathering in one of Vancouver’s most beautiful heritage houses.

Tickets are $28 for the public and $20 for UWCV members and students. Price includes appetizers and a tour of the Hycroft mansion. Seating is limited.

Refreshments for this concert generously provided by Mary Lou and Al Galbraith.

The next concert will feature bassist Jodi Proznik on March 7.
