A Royal Name for A Royal Bee

Kelowna Museums holds contest to name new Queen Bee.


Here at the BC Orchard Industry Museum we have a live bee hive to show our visitors the inner workings of bees and how a hive is constructed and maintained. Over the winter the bee hive has been fairly quiet. The Queen has been hiding in the middle, laying only a few eggs to keep the population at a minimum. A few worker bees lazily roam around the hive, doing a bit of housekeeping and a few hive repairs. Now with the arrival of our warm weather, this hive is about to spring into action! Our beekeeper, Vic, from Bees Inc. has come to check on his little pollinators and has brought a new Queen with him.  We have decided that our royal tenant needs a royal name and we need your suggestions.

There are several ways for you to do this: Send your suggestions along with your name, email address and phone number to lcanning at kelownamuseums.ca<mailto:lcanning at kelownamuseums.ca> or, you can send us a private message on facebook, (www.facebook.com/Kelowna.Museums.Society) or you can drop by the BC Orchard Industry Museum located at 1304 Ellis Street, Kelowna, in the Laurel Packinghouse and fill out a ballot! The winner will be notified and will receive a royal surprise. The final deadline for submission will be May 16th, at 5:00 pm, so bee sure to get those submissions in!
