Dear BCMA Members,

This year's conference will stimulate and provoke lively discussion around the ideas of how do these institutions situate themselves as spaces for critical dialogue. This conference as an opportunity for members' of the BCMA community to discuss how museums, galleries and archives are deal with all the challenges in contemporary society.

The Alberta Museum Association ( AMA) has been doing alot of work around issues of museums and social responsibility and the role museums play in their communities.  Alexandra  Hatcher, Executive Director, and Jennifer Forsyth, Program Lead, both from the Alberta Museum Association will be presenting a pre-conference workshop. How the AMA evolved its values statement of museums as agents of change align its program and services to support, lead and facilitate this work.

This session will explore how the Alberta Museums Association's operations evolved to embody its value statement of museums as agents of change and align its programs and services to  support, lead, and facilitate this work. The session will touch on recent AMA initiatives including strategies for community engagement, sustainability, and social responsibility. Participants will see how these initiatives are stepping stones to the long-term viability and success for museums in Alberta.
