New Westminster, BC – On September 27 and 28, the Fraser River Discovery
Centre, in partnership with the Arts Council of New Westminster and the City
of New Westminster, is proud to present RiverFest: Inspired by the Fraser,
its 10th annual celebration of BC and World Rivers Day.

BC Rivers Day is a province-wide celebration of BC’s spectacular river
heritage that is held every year on the last weekend in September. Events
throughout the province annually attract over 75,000 people in more than 100
communities. The success of this event has recently led to the establishment
of World Rivers Day by the United Nations, joining people from nearly 30
different countries in celebration of our planet’s waterways.

RiverFest is an art and environmental festival honouring the Fraser River.
The weekend will consist of live entertainment, artist and artisans’
displays, the hallmark Paddlewheeler River tours, interactive displays from
river related conversation and environmental organizations, the famous
Lucille Johnstone Work Boat Parade, the inaugural Salmon Chowder Cook Off,
and activities and crafts for all ages. In addition, the Fraser River
Discovery Centre will host the Grand Opening of their second floor at noon
on Saturday, September 28. “The Fraser River is the lifeblood of the
province,” says Cindy Sale, Communication and Event Coordinator for the
Fraser River Discovery Centre, “Inspired by the Fraser, RiverFest is a true
celebration of the Mighty Fraser. With our partners, the Arts Council of New
Westminster and the City of New Westminster, we are very proud to present a
magnificent festival with outstanding entertainment and activities that the
whole family can enjoy.”

Longtime supporter of the Fraser River Discovery Centre, Port Metro
Vancouver agreed to be RiverFest’s Presenting Sponsor again this year. “We
are thrilled to be presenting RiverFest and the Paddlewheeler tours once
again, and to celebrate the activity and trade that happens along the
working Fraser River. RiverFest is a wonderful opportunity for people to
learn about the history and current work being done on the Fraser while
attending a free, fun and family-friendly event” says Gillian Behnke,
Manager, Community Relations and Communications with Port Metro Vancouver.

RiverFest is free to the public and will be held on the boardwalk in New
Westminster from 4:00pm to 9:00pm on Friday, September 27 and from 11:00am
to 6:00pm on Saturday, September 28. For up-to-date information, please
