Ship Happens at The Reach during Culture Days
If you had a blast at Sith Happens @The Reach this summer, then you'll love Ship Happens @The Reach on Saturday, September 28 from 12 to 3pm. This fun free family event hosted by The Reach in conjunction with international Culture Days celebrations, features activities for all ages based on the new exhibition from the Canadian War Museum, The Navy: A Century in Art and Vancouver artist Virginia Ivanicki's Flight Worthy.
"Children with their families will break the code and discover the secrets in a Morse code activity taking them on a journey throughout the gallery exhibits, create their own sailor tattoo buttons and Morse code bracelets, make paper airplanes, and pose as a sailor at the Sailor Joe cutout. And it's all free," explains Jennifer Pride, Education Coordinator at The Reach Gallery Museum Abbotsford. "This is an event that young and old will enjoy, celebrating culture, the arts and Canada's proud history during times of conflict from the national to local perspective."
In addition to Ship Happens on September 28th, The Reach is excited to present a line-up of other engaging public events at the gallery during Culture Days. The weekend starts off Thursday, September 26 at 7pm with a public opening reception of The Navy: A Century in Art, Flight Worthy and Abbotsford: A Community at War. On September 27 at 12 pm, learn more about The Navy from Dr. Laura Brandon of the Canadian War Museum and curator of this exhibition as she leads you on a tour of it. On Saturday, September 28 at 12:30pm, don't miss a tour of Flight Worthy by artist Virginia Ivanicki and discover more about her motivations and processes on painting her works that pay homage to the airplanes and crews of WWII.
