Hi Cathy,

I also wanted to add, (in case you haven’t done so already), checking in with Interpretation at CRD Regional Parks, as the observatory is within a CRD regional park. Interpretive programs are regularly held there. Some of the objects might be useful for interpretive programming. Check with Nancie Dohan, Coordinator of Environmental Interpretation. 250.360.3327.

It may be a challenge to find some of the files since they were relocated from the former TLC Head Office, and since new staff may not know what the files "look like", but they should all be there. You should find digital files under donor names and under donations-in-kind in TLC's general digital 'Membership" donor files, with hard copies of tax receipts kept in the files associated previously with the TLC Membership Department. In the 5 years I was there I also kept duplicate copies of the tax receipts in separate heritage collection donor files, and these you will find in the numbered boxes I organized and relocated to the new TLC Head Office, along with the box content lists contained in my February 28, 2013 report, which I believe you have a copy of at the office. (I will follow up with you on this.)
>
> I won't get into the details of best practices for deaccessioning here, but generally speaking, you will first need to establish your associated records to confirm ownership and other information related to the donated items. If the items don't go back to the donors, then it is customary to first try to keep the items in the public domain, within the museum and heritage field, by posting a list (best accompanied by photographs) to this very listserv, to see if other publicly oriented not-for-profit museums or heritage sites are interested in acquiring the items for their own collections, through transfer. In this case it is important to also transfer any information, including a copy of the original donor forms if possible, to the institution acquiring the item/s. Generally try to find the best new home possible.

> Most of the items are c.1890-1910, and are in very good shape. Books are mostly 1860s and some quite valuable. I can help you with some of the donor names which I remember from some of the original donations I was involved with, but I wasn't at TLC for all of them. There are others - former volunteers - who I can put you in contact with, who may be able to help with information on earlier donations. Other items that belonged to TLC were at Craigflower Manor and Schoolhouse. I alerted the TLC Board to this fact at the time, and I don't know the details of what happened then, but I believe the items were absorbed by the Province when TLC ceased operation of the sites. There may be some paperwork you come across that should be sent to the Heritage Branch for their records in regard to these items. These items included furniture and clothing, all c.1860, and in excellent condition.

> Finally, if you look under the TLC digital photo files (New Photos), under my name, you will find photographs of many of the more recently added items in the collection, with the donor names and years attached.
