Artist Robin Edgar Haworth Supports Island Mountain Arts' Campaign to buy Property in Wells
Wells, BC....Robin Edgar Haworth, an artist who hails originally from the Kispiox area and who is currently showing his work as part of a two person exhibition at the Island Mountain Arts Gallery in Wells, BC, is supporting the Island Mountain Arts Society by donating 100% of the proceeds from the sale of his artwork to the "CAWS for the Nest Campaign".

The CAWS for the Nest is an ambitious Crowd Funding Campaign that the organization launched in July to raise funds to buy a property in Wells that will create a "nest" for artists and provide much needed space for the non-profit organization that has been running in Wells since 1977. Island Mountain Arts is known for its arts programs in Wells, including the Toni Onley Artists' Project, the International Harp School and the ArtsWells Festival Of All Things Art. Island Mountain Arts needs to raise $100,000 by September 9th in order to secure the financing it needs to buy the property, as there is a mining company that is also interested in buying the place. Island Mountain Arts has long identified the need for more space and accommodations for its artists, instructors, staff and programs. Currently, the town of Wells is in a housing crisis with not enough places for people to live especially in the summer season. This need has come even more sharply into focus this year with the sale of the largest motel in town to use for miners accommodations. In addition to providing for accommodation, the property Island Mountain Arts hope to buy provides a beautiful green space, lots of storage, and the potential to build more studio space for year round residencies.

"We are sincerely touched and honoured by Robin's gesture of support for this Campaign. His artworks, which are meticulously created with pen and ink are incredibly inspiring and beautiful pieces that draw on his Tsimshian roots, but also reveal his own creativity within the tradition, especially the pieces that critique the Northern Gateway Pipeline and the tar sands," says Executive Director, Julie Fowler. "We still have a long ways to go to meet our funding goal and the timeline is tight, so to have this show of support from an artist is a big boost." Fowler also mentioned that the Campbell Bay Music Festival gave a donation of $800 and that Wells artists, Bill Horne and Claire Kujundzic have also donated an artwork to raise funds for the "CAWS".

Each of Robin's original drawings are 30" x 20" in size and are valued at $2,500 each. To purchase one of Robin's works contact Islands Mountain Arts at 1-800-442-2787. You can see more images of Robin’s work on the Island Mountain Arts webpage (imarts.com) or by visiting the exhibition in Wells, which also features Bella Coola artist Tahirih Goffic.
