Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden JOB OPENING
Operations Assistant/Interpreter Part time
About us:
Named the World's Top City Garden by National Geographic, voted Garden of
the Year 2012 by the Garden Tourism Council of Canada and awarded 'Places
that Matter' status by the Vancouver Heritage Foundation, the Dr. Sun
Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden is truly a place of urban zen. Located in
the heart of Chinatown, the Garden sees and serves over 70,000 visitors
annually.
One of the top 10 Vancouver's tourist attractions, the Garden is the perfect
place to visit year-round, with covered walkways and beautiful pavilions
protecting guests from Vancouver's famous rainforest conditions! The Chinese
Garden is wheelchair accessible, family friendly (entry includes a scavenger
hunt for children!) and offers one of a kind finds at the Eight Treasures
Shop.
Our Vision: to be a world-class experience while fostering intercultural
harmony and understanding
Our Mission: to bring together cultures and communities through a classical
Chinese garden
We Value:
. Community Engagement
. Inclusive Participation
. Experiential Learning
. Continuous Improvement
The way we live our values and beliefs:
. We're a supportive team of professionals enthusiastic about our
work and each other. We work, plan, strategize, sometimes cry, and laugh
together. We coach, supervise, share, and mentor while exchanging life
stories, professional experiences, travel tips and favourite recipes. We
mean business but like to have fun.
. We love company and are continuously hosting fabulous
international artists, dancers, writers and experts with programs based on
rich history and traditions, creativity and continuous learning.
. In exchange, we are loved by our neighbors too. They bring us
complimentary tea and surprise us with freshly made cookies (true story!).
. In return, we give back by helping with the Chinatown clean- up in
the summer, host 18 inner city schools with special education programs, open
our doors to the public by donation during the Chinese New Year Festival and
feature local family stories of historical significance such as in the
international exhibit "Who Am I? - from Guangdong to Barkerville and back".
. "We train our Koi fish. Did you know they can be tamed as pets?
. Have we mentioned a taste of Hollywood glamour? The Garden has
been used for filming popular movies by Disney and television series such as
the Amazing Race and Fallen Skies.
. We love getting 'dressed to the nines' for our Gala.
. We're adventurous. In the last year alone, we went to a barbecue
at Stanley Park, participated in a laughter yoga workshop, meditated with
Monks and marvelled over the construction of an intricate sand mandala,
cooked up a hot pot feast in the lunch room, and are getting exhausted by
even mentioning all of it.
Now is YOUR turn:

impeccable dress and grooming

know about the best places to eat and shop in Chinatown
. If you don't have the answer, you're confident you can find it,
you're comfortable asking someone, and you never bluff.
. A large line-up doesn't frighten you, rather you thrive on action
and activity.

supervision and will take the lead when directed to do so.
. You love the feeling of having worked hard when it makes a
difference and the world is a more beautiful place for your contribution

tell others about the Garden. After training: sharing stories when leading

traditions.
. You're cool headed, flexible, able to problem solve and capable

but enjoy finding a way to deliver the best service under each circumstance.
