Job Posting - Curatorial Internship

Description
The Richmond Art Gallery seeks a curatorial intern to assist the Curator and other staff in carrying out a variety of tasks assigned on an ongoing basis.
Primary duties and responsibilities include:
*             Collection management - update Gallery records and historical data
*             Research background information for artists and exhibitions
*             Assist with researching and sourcing technical equipment that may be required
*             Assist in the preparation of materials for exhibition catalogues, didactic materials, grant applications, website and e-news promotion
*             Assist in the preparation of text for brochures, catalogues and publicity materials
*             Assist in education and outreach, including artist talks and guided visits
*             General office duties: filing, organization, archiving, correspondence

Qualifications - This position is grant funding dependent, see eligibility criteria below
*             Experience / education in curatorial studies, arts administration and/or contemporary visual art
*             An understanding of gallery procedures, methods and standards
*             Excellent research and organizational skills
*             Some experience working with contemporary art and knowledge of collections
*             Excellent written and oral communication
*             Ability to work in a team situation and to work with the public
*             Strong organizational and communications skills, self-motivated, ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
*             Familiarity with Microsoft Word and collections management systems/software
*             Mandarin speaking an asset

This position is funding dependent and the candidate must:
*             Be a British Columbia-based early career professional arts practitioner: must be under the age of 30; OR have less than five years of professional experience since the completion of basic training in their discipline (not necessarily in academic institutions).
Full-time students are not eligible.
*             Be committed to developing a practice and career that will allow you to work full-time at your practice when financially possible.
*             Be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident and a resident of BC who has lived in BC for at least twelve months immediately prior to application. Applicants must be prepared to provide supporting documents. Applicants who have resided outside the province within the last twelve months must be able to demonstrate that their absence was temporary (for example, for educational or artistic opportunities) in order to be eligible for support).

Reporting Structure, time/term
Curatorial Intern will report to the Curator
30 hours a week, $16.50an hour + MERCs
Duration of Internship is 49 weeks to begin between April - June 2014
