Community Mosaic Project Call to Young Artists

 

Where: Vernon Public Art Gallery, 3228 31st Ave. Vernon, BC

When: Saturday, February 1, 1-4:00 pm

Why: Community Partners Join Forces in Art Project for Youth

Who: Vernon Public Art Gallery 


The Vernon Public Art Gallery, in partnership with the Okanagan Respect
Network and Social Planning Council for the North Okanagan, is offering an
opportunity for aspiring young artists to take part in a community art
project. 

 

Led by Vernon artist, designer, and gallery owner Carolina Sanchez de
Bustamante, participants will attend a Saturday session and learn how to
express individual interpretations of respect in a visual art form.
Participants will create their own ceramic tile as a component to a larger
mosaic piece which will later be located at Patchwork Farms, the new
community garden located at Okanagan College. 

 

The intension of the project is to involve young people in a public art
project that expresses their interpretation of Respect Lives Here. 

 

"We are pleased to have partnered with several outstanding organizations in
our community, to bring young artists together to create a personalized art
project for the public to enjoy. We hope to make this an annual event and
produce  public artworks to be on display throughout Greater Vernon." Said
Executive Director Dauna Kennedy Grant.

 

There is no fee to participate. Suggested ages 12 - 18 years. Maximum 10
participants. The final installment will take place in early spring, 2014.
