RBC Foundation Gives Hand Up to Emerging Artists at The Reach
ABBOTSFORD, BC - The Reach Gallery Museum Abbotsford is thrilled to announce the generous sponsorship and support to the tune of a $5,000 grant for its Young Contemporaries project by the RBC Foundation.
"One of the main areas that RBC looks to support is emerging artists in our communities," said Doug Turner, Vice-President of RBC Fraser Valley, "It can be very difficult for young artists to make the transition to the professional world and so we are very happy to support The Reach in helping make that transition easier."
With the support from RBC, the exhibition Drain: in recognition of the 90th anniversary of the draining of Sumas Lake is being exhibited at The Reach until March 30, 2014. It features the work of eleven young, local artists in dialogue with historical photographs and artefacts. Through Drain, we invite visitors to consider the wider implications of a major undertaking like a mass drainage, and to create a dialogue around how such a project affects communities culturally, politically and environmentally. RBC's support will ensure that The Reach has the means to continue showcasing the talent of young artists like these, today and into the future.
"We launched the Young Contemporaries project in mid- 2013 with a vision to create a more vibrant, more creative and dynamic city for young people. We expect to achieve this through an awards program, full exhibitions and numerous opportunities to showcase the work of young artists, plus develop social events, classes, workshops, speakers, tours, field trips and more," explains Gabe Kirkley, creator of the project at The Reach.
Membership in the Young Contemporaries starts at $25 for individuals with discounts of up to 50% available when you sign up with additional friends. Visit www.youngcontemporaries.ca<http://www.youngcontemporaries.ca> to register and for more information.
