*COLLECTIONS MANAGER*
The Nikkei National Museum (NNM) is seeking a dynamic, team-oriented,
creative and experienced *Collections Manager* to oversee all aspects of
the archives and artifacts collections, including documentation,
preservation, storage, display, digitization, loans and access.
The NNM is part of the Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre, a
multi-use facility in Burnaby, BC. The Centre’s mission is to honour,
preserve and share Japanese Canadian history and culture for a better
Canada. Our collections currently include over 5000 photographs, 350 oral
history recordings, over 25 metres of archival and textual materials, and
2000 artifacts on Japanese Canadian culture and heritage. For further

*Position Summary:*
The *Collections Manager* is responsible for all aspects of the archives
and artifacts collections, including acquisition, accessioning,
cataloguing, arrangement, description, preservation, digitization and
maintenance of the collections database, access, copyright and reference
services.
Under the direction of the Director-Curator, the Collections Manager
develops collections policies, budgets, programs and procedures related to
the collections, and sees to their implementation.
The Collections Manager researches in the archives and artifact collections
for exhibits, publications and programs, prepares project proposals and
writes grant applications, trains and supervises staff including volunteers
and interns, undertakes outreach and liaison with organizations and the
public, and advises the Director-Curator on communications, information
systems and equipment related to the collection operation and programs.
The Collections Manager works together with other Museum and Centre staff
such as the Reference Archivist, Museum Programmer, Education Coordinator,
project staff, summer students and volunteers, and reports to the
Director-Curator.
*Qualifications:*
· University degree in a related discipline (museum studies, archival
studies, history,
anthropology, cultural resource management, etc.)
· At least 2 years experience in an archives, museum or library
· Knowledge of collections management and museum registration
· Knowledge of Canadian history, including Japanese Canadian history
· Effective interpersonal and organizational skills
· Fluent in English, with excellent verbal and written communication
skills.
· Excellent familiarity with computer databases and web platforms.
· Knowledge of Filemaker Pro an asset.
*Assets:*
· Familiarity with Japanese culture.
· Ability to speak and read Japanese.
· Ability to drive and access to a vehicle
*Hours:*
· This is a permanent position working 28 hours a week from
Tuesday-Friday.
