Hi Matthew,

We tendered for new IT Support (external) last year. We were advised by several IT providers not to use cloud backup if we had security/privacy concerns as it utilizes US based companies over which we would not have any say or control, and who would not be under the same restrictions for information sharing and spamming, as CDN companies.

We too used to manually move our back ups off site every day. However, last year we implemented an auto back up system that stores the info on external servers in a local data storage center.

Hope this feedback helps.

Subject: [BCMA] Museum Backup to the Cloud?

Hello all,

Having just undertaken a massive migration of data from old computers to shiny new units, our IT specialist has strongly recommended that we consider backing up our digital files to the cloud. Currently, we are manually moving external hard drives off-site for back-up, which made him gasp in horror.
Just wondering if there are any organizations out there currently using cloud-backup for their data? If so, how have you approached security concerns for sensitive information?

Thanks in advance!
