First World War Centenary Bus Tour on Saturday June 28th

First World War Centenary Bus Tour

The Maritime Museum of British Columbia is offering the chance to explore Victoria's role during the First World War from the comfort of a luxury coach on Saturday, June 28 at 1:00pm.  This historian-led guided tour transports you to some of the key locations in the city's mobilization and home front efforts, wrapping up with a stop at Spinnakers Gastropub.

"This summer marks the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War," says Anissa Paulsen, Director of Exhibits and Visitor Engagement at the Maritime Museum of BC. "Victoria's history concerning the war is rich and deeply rooted. We felt it was important for these stories to be told."

The tour is an opportunity to learn about the famous anti-German riots of 1915, the cavalry and infantry training grounds, the role of Victoria's nursing sisters, Canadian Prohibition and the individual stories of local people whose lives were forever changed by the war. The final hour of the tour is a stop at Spinnakers Gastropub for beer tasting and locally sourced appetizers, where one of their staff will lead an informal conversation by providing a history of Spinnakers and brewing in Victoria.

Historian, Kate Humble who has worked for Discover the Past, the University of Toronto and the Royal Armouries Museum will be leading the tour, highlighting several sites which were integral to the war effort.
